C stands for Caudate. L stands for Left side.
This is a correlation between the passionate love scale score from 7.0 to 9.0 on the bottom line, and the brain response from -0.4 to 0.3 on the side line. The [8,6,14] on the side line is the x,y,z coordinates in the brain space where the correlation was found.
First, look at each black dot on the graph. Each of those dots is a person in the experiment. Look at the very first dot on the left. See how it lines up with the passionate love scale score on the bottom of the graph? It’s right above the 7.0. That person’s score was about 7.0. Now look at the left line on the graph with the numbers from -0.4 to 0.3 and see where that dot is. That person’s brain response was a little below zero. So, that person’s passionate love scale score was the lowest in the study, and their brain response was one of the lowest, just below zero. Now notice the two top dots on the right of the graph, near the B. Those two people had the highest passionate love scale responses, around 9. They also had the highest brain response. Now look at all the dots and the line drawn through the dots. The dots and the line go in an upwards pattern and most of the dots are pretty close to the line. When we take into account this group of people and their individual responses on the questionnaire and in their brains, we see that overall there is a correlation between score and brain response.
